While the majority of iPhone users aren’t aware of it, the tools that are required to record an iPhone display are available to all users, although aren’t offered by Apple themselves. With a little work, you are able to record and display your iPhone screen on your computer, without having to go through the struggle of jailbreaking your Apple device.
iPhone Screen Recorder (Software)
When it comes to iPhone screen recorders, iPhone Screen Recorder is without a doubt the one which stands out from the crowd. Contrary to its name, it is compatible with all Apple devices. It is available for both PCs and Macs.
Upon downloading and installing the program, you may be prompted with a “Windows Security Alert” if you are installing it on a Windows computer. For the program to work as it should, it’s important that you tick both boxes in order for it to function at its optimal point as well as clicking on the “Allow Access” button.
Once you have it installed and have the program launched and ready to go, go back to the iPhone display and swipe upwards from the bottom. This will show you the control panel. From here, tap on the “AirPlay” feature and select the device which has the same name as the computer that you are using.
Note: make sure that both your Apple device and your computer are connected to the same wireless network, otherwise this method will not work. Once you have selected the device that has the same name as the computer that you are using, tap on the “Mirroring” option.
Back on your computer, a message should appear which notifies you of the AirPlay connection being made. Provided that you have a stable connection, within a matter of seconds your Apple device’s display should be visible on your computer screen. This sets you up for multiple situations. If you want to have your iPhone’s display shown on a bigger screen, you can use this program. If you want to watch a movie or play a game on a bigger screen, then simply use this program. Upon rotating your device, it will also rotate on your computer too!
After you have successfully connected your Apple device to your computer and the display is being shown, click on the “Start recording” button in order to begin the process. Once you’ve recorded all that you wanted to, click on the “Stop recording” button and the recording itself will be stored in the pre-located folder.
Quick Time Player (Mac Only)
While this method is only available to those who have a Mac computer, it is definitely one of the best tools out there to make recording your Apple device a very simplistic task. First, make sure that you have the QuickTime Player launched and have connected your device using what is known as a “Lightning” cable.
Note: upon connecting your device, you may be prompted to “Trust” the computer. If you are prompted to do this, it’s important that you click on the “Trust” button otherwise you will not have an easy time with this method.
On the QuickTime player, to begin the process click on the “File” tab at the top of the program, followed by the “New Movie Recording” option. After doing that, a new window will appear in order for you to begin the screen recording process. By default, the QuickTime player will show your webcam feed (unless one isn’t available). In order to make the display show your iPhone’s screen, simply click on the arrow located next to the recording button and select the Apple device that you would like to record.
After you have selected your Apple device, the display will then appear on your computer. It’s also worth noting that in order to make your recordings seem that little bit more professional, the program will alter the status bar. Your iPhone reception will be shown as full along with your battery percentage, and your time will be temporarily altered. While the video and audio synchronization will be on point with your recordings, there will be a noticeable delay on how long it takes for your device’s display to appear on your computer, although this is not an issue for the recording and will in no way have an impact on the final result.
When it comes to audio, there are 2 options that you have. You can either record the audio at a later date and edit the audio on to the recording itself at a later stage, or you can record the audio live. In order to do that, simply specify the device that you’d like to use for audio recording from the settings. This will allow you to record a wider variety of videos such as commentaries.
Once you are ready, click on the “Start” recording button, and once you have recorded all that you want to, click on the “Stop” recording button which can be found in the same place. Once you’ve done that, you will be able to save your recording as a .MOV file. While this file type isn’t the most popular one out there, it definitely provides you with a recording worth using.
